⭐ Reflection ⭐

You Can't Practice Yesterday's FaithI learned something about myself today.

I don't know how to ask for help.

Not because I don't need it.

Not because I don't appreciate it.

And not because I think I'm above receiving it.

I simply never learned how.

When you've spent so much of your life figuring things out, making a way, handling what needs to be handled, and finding a way to keep going, somebody asking, “What do you need?” can be one of the hardest questions to answer.

Because what do you say?

Today, I finally said the truth.

I don't know how to ask for help.

And that honesty opened a door.

Help came.

Not the way I planned it.

Not from a place I expected.

And not because I had figured everything out.

It came when I finally allowed myself to receive it.

And somewhere in the middle of all of this, I realized something else:

You can't go backwards and practice yesterday's faith with today's understanding.

That stayed with me.

Because my walk with God is changing.

The more I read His Word, the more I understand that faith isn't just something I say I have.

Faith is trust.

And trust has to be practiced.

I practice it when I read His Word and choose to believe it.

I practice it when I apply what I've read to my life.

I practice it when I don't know how something is going to work out, but I keep moving in the direction I believe God is leading me.

I even practice it when I humble myself enough to say, “I need help.”

I'm beginning to see the evidence of the Word changing me.

My character.

My thinking.

My responses.

My understanding of who God is—and who I am becoming as I walk with Him.

And maybe that's what spiritual growth looks like.

Not knowing every Scripture.

Not having every answer.

Not getting everything right.

But learning something today that changes the way you walk tomorrow.

I cannot unknow what God has taught me.

I cannot unsee what He has shown me.

And I cannot keep approaching Him with the same understanding I had before.

So I won't go backwards.

I'll keep reading.

I'll keep applying.

I'll keep trusting.

I'll keep practicing my faith.

And when God sends help in a form I didn't expect?

I'll receive it.

Because perhaps receiving is part of faith, too.

You can't practice yesterday's faith with today's understanding.
