As I reflect on 58 years of life, my heart is filled with gratitude. Not because life has been without its challenges, disappointments, or uncertainties, but because through it all, God has remained faithful.
There was a time when I measured certain seasons of my life by what I had accomplished, what I had overcome, and even what I had yet to achieve. But somewhere along this journey, I've come to understand that life is not simply about arriving at a destination. Sometimes, the greatest transformation takes place along the way.
I've learned to appreciate the beauty of becoming.
Becoming more patient with myself. More intentional with my time. More protective of my peace. More accepting of the things I cannot change, and more willing to release what was never mine to carry.
For much of my life, I've found joy in encouraging others, extending compassion, offering grace, and reminding someone else that their circumstances do not define them. Yet, in a quiet moment of reflection, I realized that the very grace I so freely extend to others is often the grace I withhold from myself.
And perhaps that is one of the lessons of this season.
Learning that I, too, deserve patience. That I can hold myself accountable without being unkind to myself. That I can acknowledge how far I've come without constantly reminding myself how far I have yet to go.
I've also come to appreciate the gift of rest. Not simply the absence of activity, but the peace that comes from no longer feeling obligated to explain, prove, pursue, or carry everything. Rest has taught me that there is strength in being still, and that trusting God sometimes requires me to release my own expectations.
As I celebrated another birthday, I was reminded that joy does not have to wait for everything to fall perfectly into place.
I can celebrate the life God has given me, even when it looks different from what I once imagined.
I can make plans, enjoy my own company, embrace the unexpected, and remain grateful for the people who share this journey with me.
And yes, I am single.
But I am not empty.
I am full.
Full of gratitude for the life I've lived. Full of love that has not diminished because of my relationship status. Full of faith in a God who continues to hold my hand, even when I cannot see what lies ahead.
Being single does not mean my life is on hold, nor does it mean there is something missing that prevents me from experiencing joy today.
I am learning to live fully in the present, without allowing the uncertainty of tomorrow to overshadow the blessings of today.
At 58, I am still learning. Still growing. Still becoming.
There are things I no longer desire, things I no longer entertain, and things I have finally learned to leave in God's hands.
And for that, I am thankful.
I don't know all that this next season holds for me, and for once, I don't feel the need to have every answer.
I simply look forward to experiencing what God has prepared, embracing each day with gratitude, extending myself grace, and continuing this journey with a heart that remains open to His will.
Because at the end of the day, I am single, but I am full.
And it is truly well with my soul.
